About the MDA

MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education.

Funds raised at Winter Wine Down will be used to fund research for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1, the number one genetic killer of young children. SMA is one of the 40+ neuromuscular diseases that MDA fights, and was recently named by the National Institute of Health as the neuromuscular disease closest to treatment.

MDA expends 76% of its program income on its client services and research programs. MDA is the first nonprofit organization recognized by the American Medical Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award for significant and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of humanity.
